July 8, 2018 - Gatorade Sunday

This is a project that almost anyone can do.

Sunday July 8, 11:30 AM we will do our next project "Gatorade Sunday". We will meet after the worship service at Sycamore View is over. This should be about 11:30 am at the parking lot by the Children's playground at Sycamore View Church of Christ. I will be there with the Gatorade, ice, and delivery instructions.

All you will need is a cooler to hold about 4 or 5 Gatorades. If you do not have one, bring a bucket. If you do not have a bucket, then just show up, we will provided a plastic bag to put ice and the drinks in. We will tell you where to go.

"Gatorade Sunday"

This is where we take ice cold Gatorade to the men and women who sell newspapers on the street corners around town. These folks work out the weather. In the winter is it cold and can be rainy. In the Summer it can be very, very hot. They do all this for very low pay. Most are having hard times and are willing to work at anything they can get. They are truly worthy of some encouragement from us and something cool to drink. The fact someone cares about them is as refreshing to them as the actual ice cold Gatorade we hand out.

We will encourage you to go in groups of 2 or 3. If you feel comfortable, park your car in a safe place and walk over and talk to them. You can tell them you know it is hot out there and you appreciate what they do for our community. You can ask them if there is anything in their life that you can pray for this week? Ask them their name, and tell them yours. Thank them again. (Please be very careful in traffic... you will be in the middle of a 4 lane roads.)

(You do not have to tell them which church you are from, or that we are a church group.) If you are unable or uncomfortable getting out of your car, then stop as if you are getting a paper. When they come over, tell them you appreciate how hard they work on such a hot day, give them a Gatorade, and say you are praying the Lord will bless them today.

Example of Jesus

Jesus said Matt. 10:43

"And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward."

Years ago during the great depression a needy man said to man passing by on the street, "Brother can you spare a dime?". To which the man passing by said ,"No, not really." The needy man then said, "Well, can you at least shake my hand?"

The point of the story is, a little respect and compassion can go a long way.
